A dream deferred, an unexpected student, and a new beginning. 
After a failed run in Hollywood, Stella Adler has little hope for the future of acting and returns to New York City to teach. That is, until an extraordinary student stumbles into her classroom. With renewed determination and challenges, she must channel her dreams through her rebellious student: the young Marlon Brando.

About the TEam

  • Julia Adler Batavia graduated with a BFA from NYU's Tisch School of Arts and an MFA from UCLA's School of Film and Television. Her writing career includes working for MTV Networks, Penguin Random House, QCODE, Killer Films and NBCUniversal, among others. Stella & Marlon is her first play, and she is thrilled to make her New York theater debut with Abingdon Theatre Company. 

  • Alberto Bonilla was part of the creative team that developed Boy Steals Train, which won a Fringe First and Best Ensemble award at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Selected works as playwright include Walking to America, Nonnie, Big Black Mexican Woman, #69, El ConejoPS 357, Hunting for Ewoks, 1-800-Mexican, and Maria. As a director, Alberto’s selected directing credits include Look Back in Anger, Three Points Over the Vig, Leaving LillyRaft of the Medusa, Reality, Be A Good Little Widow, Macbeth, Merchant of Venice and King Lear starring Austin Pendleton. Alberto’s production of Richard III  won the Queens TimesLedger “Kudos” award. Alberto recently worshiped his new version of Cymbeline - a Telenovela Melodramatic Western at the Folger Theater’s Reading series. Alberto is a member of AEA, SAG-AFTRA, HOLA and NALIP. He received a BA in Theatre at Arizona State University and studied at The British American Dramatic Academy. Alberto received his MFA in Acting at Rutgers University, Mason Gross School of the Arts. He has taught film acting at NYU Tisch, Stella Adler Studios.
